Claes Thorson, Sweden
“I want to help my customers to see and grasp the opportunities in the world around them.”
In my professional life I have several different roles: I am a journalist, diplomat and consultant and work with leaders who want to utilize more of their potential to influence – and let themselves be influenced – through communicative leadership.
Based on my experience as a television news journalist at Sveriges Television (Swedish Television) – stationed in Tokyo, London, Washington and Stockholm – I want to help my customers to see the opportunities in the world around them – and to handle them.
As a previous CEO of TV4 and communications director at Ericsson Information Systems, I have conducted business deals and thus gained very valuable experience in the business sector. As Press Counsellor at the Swedish Embassy in Washington, I have promoted Swedish interests in the one of the major capitals of the world. As editor-in-chief and assistant head of the Swedish news programme Aktuellt, I know what it’s like to lead inspired and enterprising – though occasionally difficult – people.
Today my work includes developing leaders at the Swedish Government Offices in order to increase Sweden’s influence within the EU and directing media training programmes to help them deal effectively with mass media and journalists.
I have a journalistic disposition – I frequently take photos. Read fiction to keep my language up to date. Read the New York Times and The Economist to keep track of things. Constantly on the move – between my homes in Solna and Gotland, often on my motorbike! I travel the world and have friends in many different countries. Four children with my wife Eva. Four grandchildren. I was 60 in the summer of 2010. To my own genuine surprise.
